#KitakitsSaLanai for your Events

October 15, 2024

We always go back home. Lanai Filipino Diner and Drinks is not a new place in Davao but it has been a common place for family and friends to gather and enjoy delicious food. Two years ago, we had the honor to try their new dishes after they re-opened post-pandemic. It was a wonderful experience with their rebranding and re-introducing some of their usual favorite dishes and new items on their menu.

A Taste of Filipino Comfort

I had the delight to revisit Lana a few times. Recently, we were re-invited to try more food together with other content creators in Davao. My usual favorites were also served–Kinilaw, Seafood Bicol Express, and Sizzling Kansi.

Kinilaw is any food that is prepared or “cooked” with vinegar. Usually tuna, it is served with onion, ginger and raddish with cucumber. My favorite version is how my mom would prepare it with lime or dayap which is a more fragrant version of calamansi. Lanai serves this version which is more fragrant and flavorful to my preference.

Bicol Express is traditionally prepared with coconut milk, pork, chilis and bagoong (shrimp paste) but Lanai’s version comes with chopped seafood to cater to non-pork eaters like me. The spiciness is a bit toned down but I think it caters to more diners with lower tolerance on chili.

Kansi is another Filipino favorite similar to bulalo, a beef soup. Kansi is prepared by boiling beef shanks and bone marrow and is usually a bit sour because of kamias. Lanai’s version is not the soup version and it comes with a sizzling plate. You will enjoy the same flavor and warm meal without the soup.

What to expect from Lanai Davao

Lanai Filipino Diner and Drinks is at Autoville Compound at F. Torres Street. If you know Trellis n Vines, this place should be easy to spot because this is the rebranded version. Lanai takes its name from the very definition of Lanai. It is a common space similar to a veranda where family or guests enjoy their time. Often, it’s a place to enjoy snacks or even a meal.

With its location along F. Torres Street, Lanai would be an ideal place to book your event. The space can accommodate up to 50 people. It has a parking area (although shared with our nearby tenants). You can use their sound system for a short program or KTV session. Most especially, they serve really good food that you can share or set up on a buffet.
