The fastest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
Taking this inspiration for the upcoming connectivity of Hongkong and Davao this October, Marco Polo Gateway in collaboration with Marco Polo Davao made a bold step to link two cities together with food. The Taste of Davao, a three-day culinary promotion, showcased the flavors from the eleven tribes of Davao as well as other Filipino favorite dishes at Three on Canton of Marco Polo Gateway. Recipes and dishes were presented by Marco Polo Davao’s Executive Chef Alex Destriza.
The event was launched together with the support of Consul General of Philippines in Hongkong, Department of Tourism (with Tourism Attaché from Shanghai and Tourism Promotions Board) and Cathay Pacific. The cocktail event was well-attended by the consular corps, representatives from chamber of commerce and members of the media. In a truly Mindanaoan fashion, the event kicked off with a vibrant cultural presentation by the Kalumon Performing Ensemble from Davao City.
It was with honor to hear positive feedback from people who tried the dishes during the event and gave their commendation for the Malagos Cheese and the guava membrillo (quince cheese). To some, it was their first to hear about my city and were as equally surprised when they tried some dishes from my hometown. Surely when food is on the table, things result to great stories.
