Bohol is one of the first places that I travel to outside Mindanao. That was about 12 years ago! The idea of Pangalo, Bohol was far from how I had it in my mind and I was happy to re-visit the wonderful province. Of course, food on the itinerary was always a priority. Here are four food experiences you need to try in Panglao, Bohol on your trip.
Try a Panglao favorite: Barbeque at Almores BBQ Hauz
Luckily for us, our accommodation has friendly staff who recommended a local favorite within Panglao. The local restaurant is a short ride from every point on the island. You can enjoy a meal for two for under Php 00. We had chicken pecho, isaw, chicken liver, and chicken gizzard plus rice and drinks. That is an average of Php150 per person.
While all other places can simply pass for an okay barbeque and grill, this food experience in Panglao is being patronized by locals which is a true indicator of how consistent in flavor and service. True enough, this is one place that I would come back and eat again.
Food experience bucket list: Floating seafood resto at Virgin Island
Have you tried fresh seafood in the middle of the sandbar/ sea? We did! There are many beaches in the Philippines but this is a tourist food experience we don’t want to miss in Panglao, Bohol.
Since we booked a private tour for only 2 persons, we had the option to select where we could first. Our tour guide recommended Virgin Island to be our first stop. We arrived early for lunch but we couldn’t miss trying out the food. The options were all tempting! You can choose from mantis shrimp, sea cucumber, abalone, fresh uni (sea urchin), squid, and shrimps. They cook your food by grilling them or turning them into sisig which is traditionally made with pork head but of course, we have seafood for the menu, thus the option.
We spent about Php320 on this food stop after ordering the uni and the squid, plus a can of soda.
Go International with Toto & Peppino
While driving around the Panglao area, we noticed a long queue of people in what looked like a pizza place. Of course, the curious us had to see if the place was worthy! Since we had a long day of going around, we felt more tired than hungry and we ended up ordering two items on the menu. Pizza and pasta. Cliche, yes!
This food experience in Panglao may get varied reviews but here is ours. The pasta was a little too salty for me and the service was below what we expected. The pizza came late and the taste would qualify as average. There are many areas for them to improve but it could have been better. It was a busy evening but the busy kitchen is a true test of quality service. The billing had few mistakes and there were several service crew walking around looking clueless. More areas to improve!
We spent around Php1,300 which is way above our average spending and yes, the service could have been a better food experience with the money we spent.
Enjoy a cup of coffee at Common Crew
Right across our accommodation is a charming coffee shop slash roastery slash working space. It’s far from Alona beach but it is along Tawala Circumferential Road. On our second day, we had our cup of iced coffee (yes, Bohol warmth is real) and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon inside the cafe which has many tourists coming in! Definitely another food experience we’d recommend!
The cafe is very welcoming, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating (not on the intrusive side but in a genuine way). We had Spanish latte and Salted caramel coffee because we love sweet iced coffee. We spent Php280 on our drinks.
Unlike 12 years ago, you can fly directly to Panglao, Bohol from Davao City with Cebu Pacific. They fly three times a week and you will now land at their newly built Pangalo Airport. Make sure to arrange transportation when you arrive as vans and other transportation can get very pricey.
Hello! I simply wish to give you a big thumbs up for the excellent info you have right here on this post. I will be coming back to your web site for more soon.
