Another homegrown brand is expanding its line of restaurants to give Davaoenos a different level of dining experience with Mr. & Mrs. B. This is the latest addition to the growing family business from the same company that brought to us Patok sa Manok, Golden Brown and Rekado.
No better way to honor your parents by naming a business after them, right? This is very core of the Mr. & Mrs. B–a homage to Mr. Rommel and Mrs. Lena Benedicto by their children who grew up learning their parents’ humble beginnings as well as remembering their travels and dishes from their experiences from all over the world. Mr. & Mrs. B brings together the best Asian fusion dishes and re-designing their recipe to fit the Davaoenos taste!
So here are some of my notes from the pre-opening event we had with the local digital and print media where we were able to try some of the signature dishes and sample the coffee.
Place.
Instragammable, tropical luxe.
If you are looking for a modern, relaxing and elegant place to dine less the intimidating and stiff fine dining rules, Mr. & Mrs. B is the best place to gather with friends and family. Imagine an open space with a huge ceiling to floor glass walls, modern-retro furniture, comfortable lounge chairs, mural painting of tropical plants and native baskets made into lamps. Every detail inside the restaurant has been well-thought of, creating a rewarding experience not just with the food but with the place itself.
Of course, it will be a challenge for Davaoenos from the south to visit Mr. & Mrs. B with its location in the Lanang-Pampanga area but its very accessible for public transport and has ample parking space. Will it be worth it to visit? Yes!
They are continually expanding with the upcoming coffee shop and function spaces which I am sure will be something to look forward to!
Price.
Very affordable, ideal for family-style dining.
I will make this short and direct to the point. We saw the soft opening menu and the prices. Budget-wise, it’s perfect for your family dinner or your Sunday brunch. Their signature salad, which can be shared (at least to my opinion) by 3-4 persons, is at Php375. Another signature item Roasted Herb Half Chicken (goof for 4 pax also) is at Php595. With many of their ingredients being sourced out from other cities, their pricing has been adjusted to accommodate to Davao’s ideal family dinner.
Try their food. You can truly say that the amount of work in each dish and the attention to incorporate the fusion component will give value for your money.
Palate.
Asian fusion while remaining close to home.
There is a saying amongst chefs that “a recipe has no soul; a cook’s responsibility is to bring life to the dish”. I think this reflects the same to the menu of every restaurant–it is the soul of the people who made the menu. I am personally not a big fan of fusion restaurants but I think Mr. & Mrs. B tries to uplift Filipino dishes by incorporating some ingredients that are used by other cuisines. Some of the items we tried are so complex that it gives a better appreciation to ingredients that are not usually being utilized.
Their MMB Grilled Salad uses eggplant puree and smoked fish aioli to give variety and body to the usual greens and tomato mix. Grilled romaine leaves? Genius!
As mentioned above, they will continue to expand and open a cafe and wine lounge but that story is reserved for the next day but to excite you more, Purge Coffee will be partnering with Mr. & Mrs. B! They are now serving coffee as part of their soft opening but I really cant wait for the coffee shop to finally open.
I can continue to describe and make you crave their dishes but I think it is best that we make the photos do the talking!
Thanks, MMB for inviting us and congratulations on your opening!
