My #LigoLove Story: How Ligo Sardines Became Part of My Childhood Memory

December 30, 2018
Filipino homes cannot be complete without a staple canned food like Ligo Sardines. I mean, can you imagine a Filipino breakfast table without that easy-to-cook sardines, egg, corned beef, or meat loaf? Every busy Filipino home cannot be complete without a dish that will make us feel at home.
Ligo Sardines has been a top-of-mind brand that is well-loved by many Filipino not only because it’s affordable but Ligo has made its sardines richer and more “lami”. Through time, they have also expanded their sardine flavors to many variants that have captured the Filipino market. You would see a selection of sardines-inspired dishes that are now part of every Filipino family’s daily menu, making sardines a truly staple item in every household.
But we would always find comfort in the classic tomato sauce (green can) and tomato sauce chili added (red can). There can be many variants, but the classic sardine flavor will always bring us back to memories of breakfast (and even sometimes lunch, dinner or merienda) with family and friends.
My #LigoLove story goes back to my childhood memory during reunions in our ancestral house together with my cousins. My mom and her siblings would serve Sauteed Ligo Sardines or Ligo Sardines Omelet with pandesal, hot choco or milk before we eat a hearty breakfast. We would sandwich the sardines and enjoy it while waiting for the rice and other viands to be prepared.
The feeling of family reunions always come back to me whenever I taste and enjoy sardines for breakfast. It’s a wonder how food can bring us back to childhood days and put a smile on your face.
So, what’s your #LigoLove story?
Special shout out to Bren Ang Photography for sharing the gears used in the shoot 🙂
