A Sweet Treat from Mateo’s Cake

June 8, 2020
The search for some local food continues this week and I was lucky to find a wonderful baker who fell in love with Davao just like I did. I was introduced to Mateo’s Cake which is an online store selling delicious pastries and recently moved to Davao from Metro Manila. A year ago, I met the awesome Ms. Tetta who organized a conference on writing for Mindanao culinary history. After our meeting made a trip around the sun, she linked me to her daughter, the master baker of Mateo’s Cake, Ms. Bea. A small world of foodies, right?

Mateo’s Cakes best-sellers. They had me at salted egg!
With our introduction through Facebook, I met Ms. Bea and tried two of her best-sellers from Mateo’s–Salted Egg Burnt Cheesecake and Dark Truffle Cake. I enjoyed how the cakes were freshly made before delivery. The smell of the burnt cheesecake was teasing my tastebuds while driving home! I wasted no time setting up a corner to get a good photo and then I noticed that the cheesecake was had salted eggs, which is a personal favorite! Give me a dish with salted egg and cheese (even just cream cheese), and I will be a happy kid. It was my first time to try a locally made burnt cheesecake which made me very pleased with Mateo’s. The cake is nothing short of the best ingredients which you can taste in every bite.

I am not a big chocolate person but who wouldn’t love chocolates? The dark truffle cake is layers and layers of chocolate richness which will give you that “kilig” feeling even with a small slice. Imagine this: moist chocolate cake topped with another layer of chocolate truffle almost like a mousse, frosted with chocolate, topped with thin chocolate bars, and dusted with cocoa powder! That’s layers of different textures of rich chocolatey goodness! Your sweet tooth will surely be excited.

These are just some premium cakes made by Ms. Bea, a mother of two, who trained in the best culinary and pastry schools in the country–International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management, and at the  Center for Culinary Arts Manila. Bringing to Davao her craft, and love for desserts, Davaoenos can enjoy more of her cooking by simply ordering online.

Mateos Cakes also offer variations of the cheesecake and other pastries that you can discover on their social media pages that I will link here (Mateo’s Facebook and Mateo’s Instagram). Of course, they are an online store so you will receive your cakes with the help of local delivery service, DavEx, and other services but you need to coordinate this with Mateo’s of course.

I couldn’t stop indulging on the cakes by myself but it’s worth the calories 😉 Reward yourself, give it as a gift (father’s day is just around the corner) or treat your family. Order your Mateo’s cake through their socmed accounts and simply enjoy life’s best treat on a plate.

Thank you again Ms. Tetta and Ms. Bea!
