Japanese Street Food Experience at Indanganese Takoyaki

March 3, 2022

We have learned many sad and difficult stories during this pandemic but here is one story of success and inspiration. Of course, success did not come easy and just like many businesses, the beginnings of Indanganese Takoyaki were stories of challenges and rejection.

Hoteliers turned restaurateurs Dyan Magaso and Chatty So were two among the many people who had a rough start in 2020. Davao hotel industry started taking hits with the series of strong earthquakes and eventually the Covid-19 pandemic. They only had one thing in mind after losing their employment–find where the money is.

Combining their culinary education and experience in the tourism industry, the duo started selling the Japanese street food takoyaki in their neighborhood in Indangan. Obviously, this is the simple story behind their brand name.

My friends from Davao Digital Influencers and I were recently invited to sample their products. Of course, I am no stranger to their food products. I think it’s safe to say that I have tried all their items that I can try before the event (sssshhh!)

Favorite Items to Enjoy at Indanganese Takoyaki

  1. Takoyaki – by traditional translation, this means “grilled octopus” which actually needs an octopus for it to be the real thing. However nowadays we just know that takoyaki are those savory balls we see in many Asian street night market. While everybody loves the octobits (I do too), I have favoring Quail Egg Takoyaki.
  2. Donburi – Part of Indanganese Takoyaki expansion is opening their Prime store in Damosa compound. Their Prime store offers new items apart from their takoyaki which includes donburi, musubi, okonomiyaki, yakisoba and even desserts and house drinks. I’ve tried all their non-pork donburi including my favorite Sweet and Spicy Tori Don. It’s like having a sweet and spicy karaage but with a Japanese kick that you just want to enjoy over and over again!
  3. House Drink – walking around the streets of any Asian street market won’t be complete without thirst quenchers. Aside from milk tea or iced coffee, another famous drink you’ll find would be yogurt drinks so if you want to enjoy them, they are available in their Damosa branch.
