Our second pit stop for the Davao Food Crawl’s search for city’s best homegrown resto this month led us to a humble Japanese diner along Juna Avenue in Matina which serves modern fusion Japanese dishes like maki, donburi, ramen, soba and yakitori–Kitsune. During the visit, we were able to try two variations of maki and ramen which are all new in their menu.
You’d be happy to choose one favorite from their dishes like that of the maki. The Korean Maguro Maki which I was able to taste is a must-try when you visit or order via delivery services that caters to Kitsune. At a very affordable rate, you are able to try a wonderfully-prepared Japanese dish and even order some side dishes with it, satisfying your craving so easily.
During the food crawl, we learned that the story behind the store is that it was inspired by the Japanese folklore of a fox also known as Kitsune, the messenger of the Inari (Japanese goddess of rice and food, as well as the patron of prosperity). True to the story of their namesake, Kitsune has indeed sent a message of prosperous dining experience! A wonderful connection to the Japanese culture.
Other noteworthy experience at Kitsune:
Aside from their very affordable price, the quantity of serving is really ideal for sharing. We were also able to enjoy a box of their affordable maki last December which was very ideal for small parties.
Its interesting to know that their noodles for the tantanmen ramen is homemade and are prepared on a daily basis. So you will not find it surprising if at some point they run out of noodles.
You will find Kitsune on Foodpanda, Streetby or shoot them message in Facebook, tag photos in Instagram or visit and dine them at Juna Avenue, Juna Subdivision, Davao City.
Thanks to the wonderful Roxy and her team for accommodating Team DDI for the Davao.Food Crawl.
